Robert Steven Rhine is an American writer and actor. He is also the founder,
publisher, and “Deaditor-In-Chief” of Girls and Corpses, a horror/comedy magazine.
If you haven’t given this magazine a chance then what the f*ck is wrong with you?
PUHLEASE check it out.

(RH)Thank you for this opportunity. If any of the following questions offend you I
apologize. I have a dark sense of humor and get myself into trouble often because of
my smart mouth and dark jokes. Everyone says it’s because I am Jewish. Well any who
here we go…

(RSR)You can’t offend me…. I’m Jewish too. I put Hitler’s corpse on our cover
with Marey Carey (Yeah the one from “rehab”). The only thing that offends me are
people who pick up our magazine with a bewildered look, and ask, “Is this a
magazine?”

(RH)What would you say was the incentive behind the very risque and anomalous ‘Girls
and Corpses?’

(RSR)The incentive I would glibly say is money. But that’s not true or I would have
stopped publishing years ago. The incentive for me is ‘passion’ for writing, for
art and comedy. for and horror and death and originality and pushing the envelop…
right over the cliff.

(RH)Just exactly how much stress and emotion did you go through to get this company
started?

(RSR)Would losing my business partner to a grizzly bear qualify? If you don’t
believe me, watch Stephan Miller mauled to death five times on “Grizzly Face to
Face” on Nat Geo. Or, simply read this piece I wrote:

http://girlsandcorpses.com/print4/sm.html

(RH)Do you have any regrets?

(RSR)Regrets? I have a few… but I did it…. MYYYYY WAAAAYYY!!!

(RH)And how about mentors? Everyone looks up to somebody right?

(RSR)My father was definitely my first mentor and a brilliant comedy writer.
> Actor Kennan Wynn was a great influence in my teen years and now my good friend
actor James Karen (Return Of The Living Dead) who is possibly the best human being
I know.

(RH)Do you ever find yourself aroused by these corpses?

(RSR)Depends which corpse you’re referring to. Not all corpses are arousing — just
like the living — you have to have chemistry.

(RH)Have you ever seen a real dead body? If so, please explain your thoughts….

(RSR)Plenty, both friends and family and the occasional accident scene burned
corpse. Most recently, I have been going to autopsies. I find them quite beautiful,
except for the smell. Afterwards I always go out for Mexican food. Just last week
my neighbor died. He was in the house a few days before the found him. I miss
looking out my window and seeing him on his porch. With every death goes a piece of
you…. until the last piece to go is you.

(RH)Which dead celebrity do you think would be the hottest corpse on your list?

(RSR)I get this question a lot. We have a section of the magazine called Celebrity
Death Poll. We get the most requests for Angeline Jolie. But Paris Hilton always
seems to be at the top of our corpse list.

(RH)Are you worried that print will die out soon? So many out there are convinced
print is dead.

(RSR)I think certain kinds of print will die, like newspapers will likely not be
printed in 5 years. But niche magazines will march on because of the collectibility
factor. People still want to hold their favorite magazine in their hand… while on
the toilet.

(RH)For the record I can honestly say there are a number of horror, sci/fi, dead
things magazines I look forward to reading every month. Yours has to be the HOTTEST!

(RSR)Don’t you mean the coldest? But thank you for saying this. We hope all your
readers race over to http://girlsandcorpses.com/ to preview our current issue and
then dash over to http://girlsandcorpses.com/store/index.html to order some issues
and also our crazy products and t-shirts.

(RH)Can you see yourself doing anything else in the future?

(RSR)Dying.

(RH)Naturally..

(RH)Had you not started this amazing project what do you think you would be doing
with your life?

(RSR)Looking for a job. Probably living in a box.

(RH)I get bored with asking people what their favorite scary movies are. So would
you mind telling me in your opinion, what are some of the worst horror films you
have ever seen?

(RSR)Tim Sullivan’s Hood of Horror (2006), 2001 Maniacs: ‘Field of Screams’, Orca
The Killer Whale, Excorcist II: The Heretic, Battlefield Earth, Sorority Row and the
remake of Psycho.

(RH)I couldn’t help but notice at The Scream Awards 2010 you were showing off some
of your issues at the Red Carpet and it seemed like Marilyn Manson wasn’t impressed.
Making Marilyn Manson of all people disgusted had to make you feel you accomplished
something no? Or were you offended?

(RSR)HA! The previous year in 2009 Marilyn Manson came right up to me at The Spike
Awards and asked to be on our next cover. I said ‘uh, sure’ and then I could never
get past his managers. The following year, I said hello to him on the red carpet
and Manson tried so hard to get away from me he tripped and fell. I had to hold my
tongue from asking, “Have a nice trip?” You can see the event and Manson here:

http://girlsandcorpses.com/print12/spikescream.html

(RH)I honestly don’t see what the big deal is since he likes to rub his naughty bits
on male cops but to each their own.

(RSR)Manson tries to make himself out to be a badass but he’s not as relevant as he
once was, so we would probably not have him on our cover now… unless, of corpse,
he asks again.

(RH)I noticed you did have quite a few of celebrities holding the magazine and
smiling other than Manson. However, Jorge Garcia from LOST has a look of confusion
on his face. Was he disgusted? Or just being silly about it?

(RSR)He seemed, well, Lost. Some celebrities are cool, but others duck and cover
when they see us. It’s pretty funny, especially certain actresses have appeared
nude in a crappy gory horror flick. Once, I got brushed off by the producer of
“Teeth” about a girl with teeth in her vagina who bites off guys dicks. Really! They
turned us down for a cover.

(RH)One question I’ve been DYING to ask is, exactly how much hate mail do you get a
day and what is the best hate mail you can recall ever reading?

(RSR)Not enough. We love hate mail and print them in our issues. The best one I got
was from the Crystal Cathedral telling us, “We hope you and your corpses rot in
hell.” The great irony is that the Crystal Cathedral has since gone bankrupt and is
70 million in debt and all sorts of legal trouble from shoveling funds to family
members. Ah… yes, I just love it when the pious Church goes after us. You would
think they would have their hands full of choir boys and not have time for writing
us letters. Don’t get me started on religion. I did an entire issue called “Religion
Is Dead” here: http://girlsandcorpses.com/backissues_print09.html

(RH)I understand you have also done some work in film. Can you elaborate on some of
those experiences?

(RSR)I worked as a Unit Publicist for Universal Studios and Columbia/Tri-Star
Pictures for a decade until I couldn’t handle working with celebs any more. I also
made a few filmed pilots which won a bunch of awards, such as: “Road Lawyers” and
“Vinnie and Angela’s Beauty Salon & Funeral Parlor.” Most recently I produced a
Girls and Corpses animated music video here:

Thank you Robert for giving me this hilarious interview. Good luck with your magazine!

Six years ago I came across a magazine that had me so addicted I just couldn’t put it down. I had to buy every issue I came across! The magazine is based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was founded by its original Editor-In-Chief Rod Gudino in 1997 who handed the position off to Jovanka Vuckovic in December 2005. The magazine’s current editor-in-chief, as of the December 2009 issue, is Dave Alexander. Rue Morgue covers horror in all media: films, books, websites, comic books, music, etc. Each issue includes feature stories, opinion columns, and numerous reviews. It has quickly become a leading horror magazine on the market as well as having a very healthy online presence, including weekly broadcasts of Rue Morgue Radio. Luckily, the founded and publisher of my favorite magazine had time for some of my questions. Rodrigo is a man with many talents. As you can see below….

(Q)What was the inspiration behind Rue Morgue and how did it all get started? I am sure you get asked that very question too often but I am interested to know the back story and what some of the most memorable and fun moments you had with the staff are.

(A)The inspiration behind the magazine came from wanting to do something cool for a living. At the time I was working for the music industry and I was bored. I thought of changing jobs but thought it was only a matter of time that I would get bored again so I had to come up with something that would capture my interest for a while. Horror and the macabre was perfect. I started the magazine in my living room, at the time it was lean, 20 pages and black and white but it was very slickly produced and had its own identity. The horror industry noticed it immediately and that was more or less it as long as you factor in a decade of hard work of course!

(Q)Who is a person in the industry you have always looked up to and considered a mentor?

(A)No one.

(Q)Do you have a favorite of all your impressive issues?

(A)Not really. Issues are like kids, they all have their merits. I can probably tell you more about the ones I like least rather than the ones I like most. That said, RM #100 had a special place in my heart for obvious reasons. It was a big milestone for a magazine that started out when I was two years out of university, flat broke and with a big dream in my head. I think it officially marks the beginning of our golden age.

(Q)In my opinion, Rue Morgue HAS TO BE the most entertaining magazine of the horror/sci fi/fantasy genre. Mainly, because it not only consists of beautifully written reviews for rarities and gems but it also depicts all the music, the art, the toys, novels, comics, video games, clothing, and haunted places to travel to. This is what makes Rue Morgue superior to all the other horror magazine out there. Is this what you always wanted to accomplish?

(A)I wanted to create a magazine that looked beyond horror movies and into the culture of horror so yes in this sense it is what I always wanted to accomplish. I envisioned Rue Morgue as a superior publication in terms of its quality and in terms of the experience of making it, and I think in this regard it is unique. Rue Morgue is more than a magazine, it is a presence, an art collective and even a physical place. The ideas that it emanates are felt worldwide so yeah I’m pretty happy.

(Q)My favorite portion of your magazine has to be WEIRD STATS MORBID FACTS! What a spectacular idea and a fun read. Just how do you and your staff manage to dig up all this weird and morbid information from month to month?

(A)That’s a question best put to Managing Editor Monica Kuebler who compiles all of our weird stats and morbid facts. However, we have an extensive library of strange and morbid phenomena that we use for research and Monica trolls the news daily. Between the nine people who work full time here we come up with a lot!

(Q)Then there’s the SICK TOP SIX and the very artistic DISFIGURES OF SPEECH! These are such fascinating ideas. I always wonder, do you ever run out of ideas for these editions?

(A)That’s exactly what I asked James Fisher, who illustrates Disfigures of Speech, when he first pitched it to me. But after I saw his notebook I realized we’d be set for a long, long time. As for the Sick top Six, as long as there are fucked up scenes in horror films, we’re never going to run out!

(Q)There are numerous things about Rue Morgue I adore and could babel on and on about. I adore you and your staff’s love for the art of the video nasties. This is something you guys seem to touch pretty often. What are your top five video nasties and why?

(A)My top five nasties would have to be:

5. Evilspeak – Something about this film spoke to me. Maybe it was Satan.

4. Twitch of the Death Nerve – Mario Bava!

3. The Toolbox Murders – The essence of the video nasty!

2. Zombie Flesh Eaters – I always liked this title better.

1. Cannibal Holocaust – because it crosses the line!

(Q)I get tired of asking people what their favorite horror films are. Would you mind telling me in your opinion what are the worst films you’ve ever seen?

(A)Whoa that might be a long list! Recently the only thing I remember hurting my eyeballs is Rob Zombie’s Halloween II. I realize there are people out there who like this sort of thing but I couldn’t relate to it even remotely. I may have been pissed off when I left the theatre.

(Q)The first time I ever heard of The Birthday Massacre was from your 2005 Halloween Issue, which was excellent by the way. Would you say you were a big fan of the band?

(A)I was even though I had only heard their first album and seen them live once. But I was struck by their melodies and the cinematic quality of their imagery, the way it toyed with horror and nostalgia. They are also incredibly nice people and very easy to work with so that was a major plus.

(Q)Do you enjoy horror comics? If yes, what are some of your favorites?

(A)I’m really old school when it comes to comics but I love Charles Burns’ Black Hole and Junji Ito’s Uzumaki and Gyo are also standouts. I appreciate The Walking Dead.

(Q)If you could compare yourself to any comic book character who would it be?

(A)The Crypt Keeper.

(Q)It has been rumored that you live/lived in a former funeral home. If this is true, did you witness any strange encounters at the residence? And on that note, do you believe in ghosts, monsters, demons, and things of that nature?

(A)Yes I live in what was once one of Toronto’s oldest funeral homes complete with a chapel and an old embalming room. I have only had one strange encounter here: one night I heard someone walking around the halls and got up and saw myself behind my desk. It was very strange. Other than that it’s been pretty quiet but visitors are sometimes uncomfortable here and dogs have a habit of barking at nothing. Guillermo del Toro refused to go into the basement so that might say something.

(Q)What scares you?

(A)Premature burial pretty much does it.

(Q)Honestly, I haven’t had a chance to observe some of your films. Would you care to tell me some things about the projects and what I can look forward to in the future?

(A)Well I’ve made three short films which are very different in style and tone. The Eyes of Edward James is more psychological and spooky, The Demonology of Desire is more visceral and cruel and The Facts In the Case of Mister Hollow is like a creepy murder story wrapped up in a single image. As for the future, I am working on several features; the closest to realization would be Cut Throats Nine which I am shooting with Mads Mikkelsen (from Casino Royale) and Harvey Keitel. It’s very violent and intense period movie set in the late 1800s. Then there’s Grown Up Suzanne which is a rape/revenge movie which turns the subgenre completely on its head. The Travelling Murder Show is my Spanish language horror movie which I expect to shoot in Mexico. There are a few others which I can’t really talk about yet but I can tell you I am very busy!

(Q)Lastly, If you could work with anyone in the industry who would it be?

(A)Christopher Lee. I can’t think of anyone else I would love to direct more.

Thank you very much for the interview. I enjoy reading Rue Morgue and have a vast collection at home that I still gaze upon from time to time. Hope to see you at Texas Frightmare Weekend 2011!

This director is going to be the next big Italian director…err well he already is. See Last House in the Woods when you have a chance.

Gabriele was born in Rome and started making movies when he was sixteen. He was trainee as assistant director with filmmakers Antonio Manetti and Marco Manetti working on many music videos of famous Italian artists (Alex Britti, Gigi D’Alessio, 883). At the same time he was film critic and he graduated at the University La Sapienza in Rome with a degree thesis on Italian Horror Cinema. The Last House in the Woods (2006) was released by Minerva Pictures and was worldwide acclaimed in many international film festival as Montreal World Film Festival and Philadelphia Film Festival winning the prize at Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre Film Festival for best lead actor (to Gennaro Diana) and the jury prize at Fantaspoa for “best bloodbath”. With the title “Italian Chainsaw” the movie became Top Ten seller in Japan and was also released in Thailandia, Malesia, Indonesia, Singapore, Russia and Spain. In 2008 The Last House in the Woods (2006) was acquired by Lionsgate
and Ghost House Underground, a horror genre company led by Sam Raimi, and nationwide released in USA and Canada with the International title “The Last House in the Woods”. The movie was hailed as one of the best DVDs of 2008 by Bloody Disgusting and brought back the world’s attention to the Italian Horror genre.

(Q)What would you say is the inspiration behind Last House in the Woods? I felt like it was a tribute to the beloved splatter-fests of the 70′s and 80′s and Argento’s work. I also read you were only 22 when you wrote the first draft. I’m sure that you have been asked this question many times.

(A)Yes, in my purposes The Last House in the Woods (Il Bosco Fuori is the original title, that sounds like “The Woods Outside”) had to be a return to extreme and independent American horror movies of the 70’s like Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Last House on the Left. I wrote the first draft in November 2000 when American Horror Cinema was yet very ‘mainstream’ and not offensive or disturbing as it was in the 70’s and 80’s. So I thought that was fantastic to make a new horror movie reconnecting to that glorious and forgotten past. The low budget that I had for shooting was also consistent with this kind of independent horror movies that I was searching for recreate (Night of the living dead, Evil Dead, Bad Taste, etc). In the same years came out all the new wave of American horror directors like Eli Roth or Rob Zombie: they have made with their movies many similar operations of tribute to 70’s… So when in 2007 Last House in the Woods was
finally completed and released, it became part of a global new wave of extreme horror-movies, from USA to UK and France (look at films as Haute Tension, A L’Interieur or Martyrs).

Currently I’m proud to be the Italian representative of this ‘nouvelle vague’ of splatter-movies. In the matter of Argento’s work, yes, it was for me a very important inspiration. Argento is one of my all-time favourite directors and I have seen all his movies a lot of times since I was a child. So The Last House in the Woods is a sort of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”-movie narrated with the style and the taste of Argento’s and Mario Bava’s films.

(Q)As I told you before, I just LOVED the movie. A lot of other critics have also loved the film, but there also seems to be a lot of fans of horror out there a that are little offended. What would you have to say to those who think the film was a little over the top? I know some people were upset over the abuse towards children.

(A)Oh no, the two actors children in Last House were for all days of shooting very happy and the experience was for them like to be into a great funhouse. Nothing abuse towards them. Their parents were constantly present on the set and the children had a great fun with the guys of the special effects. I’d like tell you a story about this matter. When I was going to shoot the short-movie The Closet (you can find it into the extras of Last House’s dvd), always with a child as lead actor, the mother of the child first wanted go to a psychologist to ask him if it was a good idea for her son to act in a horror-movie. The psychologist answered yes, because in his opinion the experience could help the little boy to win his fear of the dark. Instead the psychologist told her that the guy who had written that short-movie (myself) maybe should come to him for a check-up! Anyway, the movie is so over the top because I wanted to realize a very shocking movie
without half measures. The trademark of Italian Horror Cinema of Golden Age (Bava, Fulci, Argento) is just the over the top-style, the excess in blood, in violence, in aggressive colors and musics. I have shaken all these elements with the addition of sense of humor and with a lot of romanticism. I like to shake the trash with the poetry for take the audience at contrasting emotions.

(Q)The exploding goiter scene made me cringe…this is very hard to make me do. How in the world did you come up with this scene?

(A)Oh yes… the exploding goiter is the “Troma”-time of the movie. As I told before, it’s one of the trash elements I have put in the movie. At this point the people don’t know if burst into laughter or throw up. It’s a very good moment. The inspiration came out from Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead, when Bruce Campbell crushes eyes balls of the witch with his fingers and all the blood oozes out. It’s repellent but funny at the same time. There is also a biographical reason, because when I was a little teenager I had a lot of pimples in my face and I have fought with them for a lot of time…

(Q)I understand you may of had a lot of problems and negative feelings towards Italian Cinema. If correct, would you care to elaborate?

(A)Yes, I hate Italian Cinema of last 20 years because Italian Cinema is dead in the late 80’s due to a lot of reasons. Currently Italian industry of Cinema is only producing very intellectual drama movies as the Nanni Moretti films or stupid and gross family comedies that have a big audience. In Italy there is a strong Television censorship that prevents the authors from making movies with elements of violence of any sort. So horror-movies are almost banned. In Italy The Last House in the Woods was forbidden for over 18 years old (X-rated) and for this reason it cannot have on TV. Plus the Italian State funds only politically committed screenplays, so all the genre-movies as horror movies, crime movies, thriller movies etc are banned from the main industry. It’s very frustrating. You can see that a great talented director as Michele Soavi (The Church, Cemetery Man), direct heir of Dario Argento, in the last 15 years had left the horror genre for
making a lot of national TV-series. So Italian Cinema is dead. But I promise that I’ll fight for still rise it from the ashes!

(Q)Lastly, can we be expecting another giallo film from you in the near future?

(A)Oh yes, I’m just going to shoot my second feature film, titled “In the mouth of Ubaldo Terzani”… It’s a very hard giallo about a young director that falls over the jaws of a diabolic old writer of horror bestsellers… It will be a true bloody trip!

Brownrigg, a local film director here in Dallas, kindly answered a few questions for me, allowing me to get to know him better and giving me insight into his past film projects. He also gave me some background information about his upcoming film entitled Archaic Redemption, due to release next year. His high energy, wonderful sense of humor, and very obvious passion for the film business made writing the column below exciting and enjoyable!

Q Looking at your bio, not only do you direct and produce films; you are also an accomplished actor and writer as well. Which one of these roles do you feel most passionate about?

A Definitely directing, and writing. My father, (S.F. Brownrigg) was a director and producer in the 70′s.

Q How did you get started?

A Because my father was a director, I grew up on film sets and dabbled in everything on them. My father directed “Don’t Look in the Basement”.

Q What drives you to the film biz? *Brownrigg answered with a big grin on his face*

A The film business is a disease: It’s like the plague! When you’re in the business, it’s in everything you do. It’s a passion.

Q What are some things in your life that are big motivators for you?

A My father is a a big motivator. Francis Coppola *Godfather* Stanley Kubrick, any good film maker: A good film maker is someone who’s work affects you. That can be anything: fear, happiness, sadness, any of the human emotions.

Q Tell me a little bit about your family.

A My mother was an actress. In fact, my father and mother met on a Larry Buchanan film called “The Naked Witch”. She played the naked witch and he was the sound man. My mother’s name at the time was Libby Hall. My wife’s name is Megan. She is also a writer and deals more in the novel/plot elements sort of thing. She writes with me on a lot of stuff. .

Q “Archaic Redemption” is your next film currently under production stages. Can you give me some insight into what this film is about?

A The idea for the film all started on an online social network called Second Life. On this network, there are about 4000 people that play a role playing game based upon a post apocalyptic world. The name of the world is Cola, which is short for City of Lost Angels (created by Suzanna Soyinka). In this world, all hell is broken loose: There’s a comet that came down called Wormwood; There are demons, angels, vampires, humans, the undead, werewolves, and the supernatural. All factions battle each other in the city. The undead faction is called Archaic Redemption (created by Tempest Ella). It takes place in Necroville, where the undeads hang out. Unlike typical zombies, they know who they are and are fast thinkers. They do all the things zombies do, but they have names and lives and it’s very inspiring.

Q Who are the actors and actresses cast in “Archaic Redemption”?

A The movie is still being cast currently. A calendar is also in production. The calendar will have our undead characters displayed on it. Brooke Lewis, who is a very big supporter of breast cancer research, came on board to play the head of the undead faction, Tempest Ella. Megan Miller is playing the role of Chasity, Keli Wolfe as Kaz, Camden Toy as Dr. Nash, Arianne Martin as Ava, and Tyler Tackett as Xan. All characters are based from Second Life. Everyone came on board without even seeing a script, so the script is being written around the game currently and the characters.

Q I understand that you are donating proceeds from “Archaic Redemption” calendar sales to breast cancer research. That’s very generous of you! Why did you choose this particular charity?

A I chose it because it is a good cause, I have supported the cause before, and a member of my family has been diagnosed with breast cancer recently. So, the cause also hits a personal note for me.

Q What other projects are you working on?

A I am going to be directing a vampire film next year and working with Gabrielle Faust. I can’t give details yet, but it’s definitely an exciting project! Freeborn is another film I am working on. It’s a werewolf film based in Ireland, Dun Aengus. In Dun Aengus, there is an old fort that drops off a cliff. This spot is incredible and has inspired Freeborn… Also, the Guinness is awesome in Ireland!

Q Do you prefer the horror genre?

A Actually, I enjoy all movie genres. I made the film “Red Victoria” because I was bored. *Because of the confused look on my face at this point, Brownrigg went on to explain* ” I really wanted to do a comedy, but a guy I knew convinced me to do a horror movie. Therefore, “Red Victoria” is a dark comedy. The movie is about a guy who doesn’t want to make a horror movie. I sat down and said I need a muse. Victoria is my horror muse. The premise of the film is that she is there to guide him to create the story so that she can kill everyone at the end.”

Q Do you anticipate experimenting with any other genres in the future?

A Absolutely! I actually prefer interesting stories, no matter what the genre. I have a interest in science fiction comedies and romantic comedies. I prefer any genre that tells a good story.

Q Is there a particular genre you won’t do?

A I won’t do pornography. Clothes are too much fun.

Q What are your thoughts on the “Twilight” series out right now and the craze over it?

A “Twilight” isn’t necessarily my personal cup of tea. However, I will fully recognize the story has an audience. If a story has an audience, than it is a good story. *Brownrigg had me in tears with laughter with his next sentence*

“No zombies will sparkle in red in “Archaic Redemption” unless they are on fire.”

Q Do you spend most of your time in Dallas?

A I do. I travel to Los Angeles, but my home is here in Dallas.

Q What are a few of your all time favorite movies?

A “Manchurian Candidate” the original, and “Mean Streets” are two. I enjoy making horror movies more than I enjoy watching them. The reason is I have been in the industry so long, nothing scares me. But I do watch them, because I am a very big supporter of independent films. It’s a crazy business and anyone who has the guts to make a movie and has the passion to strive towards that goal has my respect.

Q Where can the public purchase and view your films?

A “Red Victoria” is out on Netflix, Amazon, Best Buy, and Blockbuster.

Q Years from now, what would you like to be remembered for in the movie biz?

A The funny thing is, I would rather have the films remembered more than me. I want to be proud of anything I do. And if the audience enjoys it and gets something from the film, that is what I would like to be remembered.

I’d like to thank Mr. Brownrigg for giving me the chance to interview him and get to know him better. Be sure to check out his films on Netflix or at your local Blockbuster! I am personally looking forward to “Freeborn”, as an occult fan myself. I will keep you updated as the movie release gets closer!

So I was doing my daily Myspace duty and I came across this profile “Been Dead Along Time”. “Sounds interesting” I thought. So I clicked on it and was floored by some of the awesome images and artwork featured there. So after sending a friend request, I thought I’d try to get to know this up and coming filmmaker, artist and photographer known only as “King”…

“I am a photographer, independent filmmaker and all around artist with seven years of experience doing photography and artwork for metal and punk bands around North Carolina. A devoted horror fan and disciple of the macabre, I made my first short film in 2008 for the American Zombie Film Fest. I currently have three short film projects and two music videos in the works, as well as book of macabre and morbid photos. Also in the works, a comic book built of photography and different mediums which will include works from other artists as well as my own. The goal with my art, regardless of the medium I use, is to shock and attract attention from the audience. Influenced from the filmmakers of the late 60′s through 80′s, I want to make films and art that is gritty and shocking like “Cannibal Holocaust”, “Last House On The Left”, “Friday The 13th”, and the Romero films, but also with the scummy and dirty atmosphere of early exploitation films such as “Kill Baby Kill”, “Hells Angels On Wheels”, and “Ilsa: She Wolf Of The SS”.

My partner and I have always been horror fans, always asking for more gore and more violence. With our art and films we plan on leaving our audience not asking for more, but rather asking themselves, ”What just happened?” or “Is that legal ?”. Either way, the audience will be assaulted with over the top gore and horror that will scar their memory and sanity.”
-King

Be sure to check back for more pictures and artwork from “King”. Also, we will be featuring one of his films right here on ScreamTV.net soon, but in the meantime you can check out more of King’s work at: www.deadkingdom.com

By the way, feel free to stop by our Myspace page at www.myspace.com/screamtv

Word to your mother.
